HELPFUL HINTS FOR NAIL ART AND NAIL DECORATING

I have created this page to add a few helpful and cool tricks to help with nail care and nail arts.  Some are tips and tricks that I use and others are submitted by customers.   If you have a tip you would like to share..please email it to me and I'll post it.  Thanks in advance!

**I have tried using the dipping method and the polish gets all over my fingers...what should I do?
**My cuticles are always dry and cracking...how can I prevent this?

**Some nail art like rhinestone and pearls are so tiny..they are hard to apply...any suggestions?
**The post is too long on my screw on nail charm..what should I do?
**My nail art moves around when I try to apply the sealing top coat..what should I do?

**My bottle of nail polish leak when I put them away in my art box..what should I do?
**The ring on my dangle keep opening..what should I do?

Polishing nails to a smooth finish...

One way that might help is to polish in steps..
When polishing nails put one stroke down the middle..then one on each side. Let dry completely and repeat as neccesary.   This helps prevent you from going over the same area too many times while wet.  This technique will also help create a smoother finish in the end since it won't disturb the polish.

How do I clean up the polish off my fingers?
You can use a few different things...try a cotton swab, one of the pointed specialty swabs (available on this site, click here) or an orange stick dipped in non-acetone polish remover.  Use this as a tool to clean up any excess polish on fingers.

I would like to try the dipping method that creates an almost tie died look..how do I do that?

Start by filling a bowl with water..then put drops of Nail Polish in the water...this will float on top...slowly dip finger and swirl in water..the paint will attach to the nail.  Try using multiple colors to create your own look.  All nails will be different and unique..this is a very easy way to get creative with color.  Add rhinestones, pearls or any other nail art to embellish...BEAUTIFUL!

I have tried using the dipping method and the polish gets all over my fingers...what should I do?
Try putting petroleum jelly around the nail but only on the finger..then dip finger..let colors dry on fingers then simply wash hands with soap and water to remove the jelly and the excess polish.

My cuticles are always dry and cracking...how can I prevent this?

One way is to make sure you drink lots of water..this is important to hydrate your skin.  The second thing you can do is while sitting watching tv...simply put a moisturizing lotions around the nails and let that sit for 20 min to an hour...do this as often as you can...this will hydrate the skin and make cuticles soft.  The third thing you should ALWAYS do is when you wash your hands use the towel to gently push cuticles down.  This helps the cuticle from growing up and sticking the nail which is what sometimes causing the tearing.  Doing these three things can also help prevent hang nails as the nail becomes the healthier the problems disappear!

Some nail art like rhinestone and pearls are so tiny..they are hard to apply...any suggestions?
Try using a dampened orange stick or rhinestone picker upper to pick up nail art and lay in the exact design you looking for.

My nail color isn't consistent..what should I do?

Always shake the polish very well before using..this mixes the color and you will get a better coverage.

Braiding is fraying and lifting on the edges..what can I do?
Two things...first...always cut the braiding, rope, or lazer strips a little short of the end of the nail.

and two..it is always a good idea to put a rhinestone, pearl or metal stud on the ends to help secure the ends and keep them on the nail.
or 3) after cutting a little short...apply a tiny drop of nail glue to the ends to secure onto nail.

The post is too long on my screw on nail charm..what should I do?

Use nail clipper or wite cutter to cut off any excess..do this after apply the nuts so you don't cut it to short.  If it gets a little rough on the edges use a course nail file to gently file and points off.

My nail art moves around when I try to apply the sealing top coat..what should I do?

ALWAYS..let the nail art dry onto nail before apply top coat..it will hold in place while you apply the sealing top coat.

My nail art always seem to fade after a few days..like it's rubbing off..what should I do?

When you have taken the time to create your nail art...protect it and keep it fresh by applying top coat ever couple of days to seal it again and bring the shine back.

The nail art wears off the tips of my nails..what should I do?

Try applying  the top coat over the entire nail ..then with the tip of the nail polish brush apply more just on the tip..do this every few days to protect the nail art.

My bottle of nail polish leak when I put them away in my art box..what should I do?

Keep the rim of the bottle clean..before closing and putting away wipe off any excess around the threads of the bottle.  The reason your polish leaks is because all that excess won't let the bottle seal.

The ring on my dangle keep opening..what should I do?

I suggest putting a tiny drop of clear polish or top coat where the ends of the ring meet..this helps create a complete circle and keep the ring from opening.  Make sure you hold the ring up and away from nail while drying so it won't dry onto nail.
